Excerpt

“I love you unbrokenly,” I whisper with my heart firmly stuck in my throat.

He tilts his head and smiles that turn-my-knees-to-jello smile. “Why unbrokenly?”

A slow smile plucks at my lips. “Cause before you my life was broken, shattered to smithereens, but now it’s unbroken.”

His eyes soften and he presses his forehead to mine. “I love you …” and then he adds, “unbrokenly.”

My heart melts to a puddle of goo. “For reals?”

He nods, his eyes shimmering with emotions. I’m doing a little happy dance inside my heart because those emotions are all for me. And then he whispers, “For reals.”

Michelle Horst is from a small town in South Africa.

She's been in love with reading from an early age. She has a passion for books, quotes and animals.

She first tried her hand at writing in early 2009 and as the first words started to form into a book, she knew she was hooked.

Dreams spilled onto pages, and that was the beginning of a wonderful journey. A journey filled with joy, passion and heart stopping moments. Most of all, it's filled with such pride and peace as a story comes to life, and characters fill your life, living in the very walls of your mind, living in the minds of your readers.

REVIEW - Whiteout by Ann Grech - REVIEWED BY LOUISE

Choosing to read this book for me was a major step out of my comfort zone.  I don't read MM books, I never have done.  It's never appealed to me before but the blurb on this book made me want to read it.

The storyline of the avalanche is fantastic, well written and makes you want to carry on reading to find out what happens next!!!

I'm very glad I read this.  I love the chemistry between them.  The fact they believe they are straight until they meet reveals to me that they are meant to be together.

I love the fact that they are destined to be together despite the fact they are both male.

I most definitely will read book 2, I want to know what happens next in their relationship.

Reading this has made me realise, you can't generalise genres of books.  If you do you may miss out on a hidden gem.  That's how I feel about this book.

Get ready for an avalanche of emotions to hit you, HARD!! ~ Booklover

Excerpt

Reef pulled his goggles down over his helmet and picked up his snowboard, trudging further up the slope as they both tried to get through to base on their helmet-mounted radios again. “Nada. Still.” They’d been trying for two hours, hiking steadily up the slope away from the cabin. Dread curled in Reef’s gut. It didn’t feel right. Surely they should have been able to get through by now. The sky had cleared in the couple of hours they’d been outside, the clouds starting to break apart and the glorious blue sky peeping through. These were the best conditions to snowboard in. A massive dump of fresh powder, relatively warm weather compared to the last couple of days’ freezing temperatures, and no people to get in his way. The problem was, they’d be stuck out here until either the chopper or mountain rescue could get to them. If they didn’t get through soon, they’d have to turn, and head back to the cabin to wait out the night, and with the firewood getting low, they were going to be cold.
“I’m gonna head up a little higher. I’m getting something on the radio, but it’s not clear enough.”
“Alright man, I need to take off my boot and fix up my sock.”
They bumped fists and Reef watched Ford maneuver his skis, and trudge up the slope toward an outcropping of rocks. Time slowed to a crawl as the crack, crack, crack of the slope giving way underneath Ford’s feet smashed through the silence of the mountain around them. Reef shouted, and ran the fifty, or so, feet toward him; his movements slowed in the thigh deep powder. It was like he was anchored in quicksand. Reef reached out willing his arm to stretch to an impossible length, as he desperately tried to grab a finger hold of his friend’s ski pole. Ford had pivoted, skiing back toward Reef like a mad man.
He was too far away.
Ford pushed forward with powerful movements; but his attempt to pick up speed and get out of the way of the slipping slope was futile. Reef read the fear on Ford’s mostly covered face as the vital seconds ticked by.
“Ford, hurry up. Please,” Reef begged, shouting over the roaring of the snow careening down the mountain. The noise, as loud as a jet engine, drowned out his pleas as Ford moved closer to him. They were barely an arm’s length apart, as Reef’s worst nightmare unfolded before his eyes. Ford stumbled, the snow shifting beneath his feet quicker now, as the tsunami of white picked him up and tossed him like a ragdoll, hurtling him down the steep gradient. Reef reacted on instinct, running after the man that had, in four days, come to mean more to him than any friend he’d ever had. His eyes locked on the churning mass of snow, Reef frantically looking for any sign of Ford.
Calling his name over and over again, Reef searched, scanning every inch of the still snow before him. He had no idea how long he’d been looking. Minutes could have turned into hours, but Reef couldn’t give up hope. He wouldn’t. Was Ford alive? He didn’t pray to a god, but right then he would have done anything, including hand his soul over to the Devil himself, if it meant he could save Ford. “Please,” he whispered, his voice hoarse from shouting.
The emotion hit me hard though, and I loved that ~ Blissfully Bookerized

Never judge a book by it's genre - Random musings from Louise's brain

Never judge a book by it's genre - Random musings from Louise's brain

I wonder how many of you are guilty of doing this?  I know I am on many an occasion.

Just the other week I commented on a confession (I.A.B.B. confessions) that I rarely rated a book under 5 stars and had never rated one under 4 stars.  Until recently.  And I said the reason is because I sign up for the books I know I like in the genres I like.

So I wondered recently how many great books am I missing out on because it's "not my usual genre"...... The answer is probably absolutely loads!

So why is that?  Because I have gotten into a pattern of genres of books I read, they are my "go to" types of books.

Last week I wondered about signing up for reading a new book, the blurb sounded awesome.  The catch?  It was a M/M book and I don't read those.  Why?  Well it's not because I can say I don't like them as I've never read one before.  I guess it just never appealed to me, I never thought I would like it.  But I thought, what the heck.  And I took a chance on the fact I rather liked the blurb.

Today I read this book in one day, a matter of hours.  It was very different to what I have ever read before for obvious reasons.  But I have to say I really rather enjoyed it.  For me there's no question it was a 5* read.  Now that's not to say I will enjoy every M/M book I read.  But I certainly will sign up for book two because I need to know more about their story.  The chemistry between them did it for me, they clearly were soulmates regardless for the facts they are both male and were actually straight, or they thought they were until they met.

So while I don't think I will be adding M/M to my top fave genres to read I certainly won't be totally avoiding the genre anymore.

So my question to you is.....

Do you judge a book by its genre?
Do you assume you won't like a book because you haven't read anything like it before?  Or because you really don't think you would like it?

Try it.  Give it a go.  Expand your horizons, read something out of your box.  After all, variety is the spice of life.  And you may just find a hidden gem that you otherwise would have missed out on reading.

It's said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.

The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.

When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

redemptive-fb-cover-REVIEW

Well after the way Combative ended I was especially interested in how this book would pan out.  I naturally assumed like most series books when there is a cliffhanger that book 2 would follow on from book 1.

This does not, Jay McLean goes against the grain and with book 2 Redemptive takes us back.  Back to the time before Combative.  Back to exactly how Nate knows Bailey.

I have to say I actually preferred this book to book 1.  This one had much more drama and strength to it and the chemistry between Bailey and Nate was amazing.  That and the secondary character of Tiny made the story something that you won't want to put down.

I've said enough. I refuse to say anymore or it will destroy the story.

4 1/2 stars from me.
